It happened around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the building foundation for a recreation center at St. Matthew Church on Scribner Avenue in Norwalk.
The Norwalk Fire Department responded to the call requiring a high angle rescue.
The 58-year-old worker had fallen approximately 8 feet and struck his head while working on the foundation, the fire department said.
The accident, which occurred below grade, required the firefighters to secure the patient in a rescue basket and use a ladder, and rope rigging to remove him.
The extrication process to about 15 minutes to get the patient to grade, for transport by paramedics to Norwalk Hospital.
The patient was admitted for observation and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the accident.
